What's For Dinner?

I worked up quite an appetite with all that I did today and, by dinner time found myself with the fierce desire for some pulled pork BBQ for dinner. We stopped at our first choice, The Joint which is on Poland Ave. by Dauphine Street. I found out that they are only open Thursday through Monday. It was dissapointing to see them closed since I've heard some really good things about the place. We''ll try again another time taking better note of their hours. This time however we opted for VooDoo BBQ on St. Charles Ave. instead.

Their style of BBQ is not the wet shreds of pork in sauce kind (which is good) but, the dry seasoned Memphis style with the sauce given on the side as more of a condiment. The menu has BBQ chicken available by the whole or half portion, pulled pork sandwhiches and plates, beef brisket and ribs. Inside is clean and decorated with cheerful folk art, tables in the front and, a nice bar area in the back. Service was quick and friendly. Prices may be on the high end for this type of fare but, portions and the quality of food stand up to the cost.

We ordered a feast to go that included a whole chicken and a pulled pork plate with, "rattlesnake" beans, corn pudding and cloeslaw for sides. Everything was great except for the coleslaw. It had rosemary in it which clashed with the intended flavor. The meat was super tender and well seasoned. I especially enjoyed the Crystal's Mango hot sauce that comes on the side. It is spicy but sweet, tangy and, addictive! What a nice induldgent end to a long hard day.

I have just eaten, yet you still managed to make me hungry! It all sounds really good. *note to self: maybe getting a job in New Oreleans will not be so bad*
